Kozacko Folk Costume

This costume has its origin in South Bohemia (the center of this region is the town of Tabor). It's very dressy and consists of the most typical components of South-bohemian costumes. The outline of the head with a small dove and the ribbon over the forehead is very charming. The corset is decorated with taste and the rich-embroidered apron represents the most impresive component of this costume.

Kozacko front

Blouse - "halenka"

halenka halenka The blouse is tailored of the white cloth and trimmed with a fine lace. It's firmed by a double cloth on shoulders. Above the shoulder strap, it's decorated by a white embroidery. The design is adjusted to the dancing movements, so it is very comfortable to dance in. The blouse is tightened around the neck by a lace, which allows to move the neckline lower or higher.

Cap ("dove") - "holubička"

cap cap This cap belongs among the jewels of Czech folk costumes. It is formed and stiffened carefully, so that it can be fixed just by two hairgrips (sometimes it's not even necessary). The black velvet strip over the forehead is very typical for the South-bohemian region. It accomplishes the final impression of the whole costume. The dove (the ribbon) is embroidered and formed in advance. The hair should be combed into a knot when wearing this cap.

Laced bodice - "šněrovačka"

snerovacka snerovacka It is made of the original cloth called "sukno". It has dark red color, decorated with red lacing on the back. It's formed on the lower end in a way to fit well on the hips and not roll up. The lower parts are hidden behind the skirt, so they cannot be seen normally. But thanks to them the bodice follows the shape of the body. This hand-emboidered bodice is decorated by glittering spangles.

Skirt Skirt - "sukně"

The skirt is tailored of a narrow strip of brocade cloth and goffered into puckers in the waist. It's padded by a special dressing material, which makes the shape of the skirt feathery. The skirt is not decorated by ribbons, its tame adornment is an intention - the apron should surpass the skirt.

Apron - "zástěra"

The apron together with the dove is the most important part of the whole costume. It is made of a white cloth and richly embroidered by a dark red cotton and finally decorated by the glittering spangels. The lap is trimmed by the cotton again. The patterns of the embroideries are taken over from the original patterns and they are precisely copied. The embroidery (both the patterns and the colours) is used just in this region and that's why it is very valuable.
